Third Actress' the Charm for Lisbeth Salander?

by Murtada

Claire Foy is confirmed to be the new Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo sequel, The Girl in the Spider’s Web. Rumours have been flying about Foy playing the part since the spring, but it has now become official. Foy will become the third actress to play the iconic part of the tattooed pierced hacker. The film will team Foy with director Fede Alvarez, who helmed 2016’s Don’t Breathe. The plan is to release in October of next year.

Of course one can’t process this news without thinking of Rooney Mara. When news of this reboot was first reported last November, she announced her interest...

Will "Bright" be a Netflix Blockbuster? And how do you even define that?

By Ben Miller

If you haven’t heard already, Netflix will continue their quest for world domination with a tentpole feature film, Bright, in December.  Directed by David Ayer (End of Watch, Fury), the film stars Will Smith as a Los Angeles police officer who is teamed up with an orc cop (Joel Edgerton) to fight crime and try to make sense of whatever the hell is happening in the trailer.  There are fairies, magic wands, elves, swords, Noomi Rapace, and all sorts of other fantastical elements involved.

Let’s talk money.  Bright cost $90 million for Netflix to pick up.  Half of that cost went in to the film to shoot, while the other half goes to the talent (mostly Smith, Ayer and screenwriter Max Landis).  These days, $90 million seems pretty reasonable for a fantasy film starring an A-List “Movie Star”.  Suicide Squad, the most recent Smith-Ayer fantasy foray, cost $175 million. Noomi Rapace x7

Chris here. Have you been wondering where Noomi Rapace has been hiding? Well, she's been busy getting cloned for her upcoming Netflix film Seven Sisters. (Just kidding, obviously, but just imagine the gifts we could receive if we started cloning actress!)

Rapace stars as septuplets in a world where siblings are outlawed. Raised by father figure Willem Dafoe, each woman is named for the day of the week that they get to go out into the real world, all assuming the identity of one Karen Settman. As if this doesn't sound looney tunes enough, Glenn Close shows up as the bureaucratic villain for maximum camp nefariousness. When Monday doesn't return home, it's up to the rest of the week sisters to find out what happened to her. And you thought your Mondays were the worst!

Seven Sisters will arrive on stateside Netflix sometime at the end of the year (though it opens elsewhere this summer), and I'm already a little giddy for its sci-fi silliness and what looks like Rapace having a good time. In your sci-fi dystopia, what one day of the week would you choose to leave the house?

Red Carpet Lineup: Best, Boldest, and Most Basic BAFTA Beauties

Nathaniel here since our fashion expert Jose Solis is unavailable to share his red carpet expertise. Argh! Unlike Jose I cannot tell you who these actresses are wearing -- my gawking is strictly actress-focused. But have I ever told you about my favorite "category" on red carpets? It's "Actresses Who Show up in Costumes as Fictional Characters Nobody Has Invented Yet" which is just what Noomi Rapace and Anya Taylor Joy did at this weekend's BAFTAs!

Boldest: Noomi & Anya

What kind of fictional characters are these? Please help me write those character profiles in the comments won't you? More gowns from superstars like Emma Stone, Penélope Cruz, and Nicole Kidman follow after the jump...

Cannes Red Carpet 2: Dystopian Glamour + Illicit Flats

We return to Cannes glamour...

NATHANIEL: It has been a full week since the last Red Carpet conversation which is INEXCUSABLE, this being Cannes but the sheer volume of dresses (and I'm not talking about size though there is some of that) but quantity have made it rather daunting. So let's discuss 11 looks today.

Before we get to the lineups, I don't much care for white dresses at events unless someone is getting hitched so Zoe Kravitz is the only one out of an original multiperson white lineup I was going to do. Because I think the extension braids totally complete the look.

JOSE: Rooney Mara corners the market on bridal couture on the red carpet in my opinion, but Zoe looks really nice too! I wish she would've worn this in Mad Max instead of looking so dirty. That movie did nothing for my OCD. I wanted to hand everyone a gallon of Purell

NATHANIEL:  I love that her name in Fury Road was "Toast the Knowing".... LOL. You can't expect toast to not have that scrape off burnt layer though personally i think Zoe and her fellow rogue sex slaves looked pretty immaculate considering the white wraps and that they were riding UNDERNEATH A FUEL TRUCK.

JOSE: They needed more Valentino though! Have they learned nothing from looking glamorous in dystopia? Madonna pulls it off in Ghosttown beautifully...

MARGARET: Zoe clearly understands this, making up for it by rocking Valentino here. In white gowns, especially ones this simple, the pressure is on the hair and makeup to sell the look and she nailed it on both counts.

10 MORE LOOKS AFTER THE JUMP...
