"The Two Popes" rising...

"I have four more Oscars nominations than you. I've also won!"

Yours truly is still trying to get back into the swing of daily life after the always delightful Middleburg Film Festival. At the conclusion of the festival, the votes were counted and The Two Popes emerged as the Audience Award winner. You may recall that Green Book won that prize just last year before it went on to very leggy box office (final international tally $321.7 million on only a $23 million budget) and the Best Picture Oscar win.

The Two Popes is a less controversial crowd-pleaser and surely an Oscar nomination threat for two categories...

"Bombshell" screens shaking up Best Actress

Potentially great news just arrived for the undernourished Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress races:  Jay Roach’s Bombshell had its first screening in LA on Sunday night, and the word out of the gate seems overwhelmingly positive.

Reviews for the film are embargoed for another eight weeks or so, but various sources online are saying Charlize Theron’s “transformational” performance as Fox News personality Megyn Kelly is explosive and catapults her into the top of the Best Actress race...

Middleburg Tickets on Sale

We told you about the main events at Middleburg last week but the full slate and list of movies is now available. But first here's a little listing that's historic (for us at least) -- The Film Experience will join Awards Daily and Awards Circuit for a special "Coffee and Contenders" event.

Should be fun.

All Oscar Charts Updated!

Every single Oscar chart has been updated. Woo-ho. Click on over to explore. The big movers up the chart this month are Marriage Story, Parasite, and The Irishman. Unfortunately we think this comes at a high cost for The Farewell. The films that no one has really seen yet but which could disrupt multiple races remain Bombshell and 1917. And, having seen Harriet, we've dropped that down to just competitive in three races.
