Beauty vs Beast: Say it With Cerulean

Jason Adams of MNPP here with your brand new edition of our "Beauty vs Beast" poll -- not to over-Meryl us (does such a thing exist?) with two Meryl polls in the span of three weeks on top of her much-talked-about turn on Big Little Lies, but it was the 13th anniversary of The Devil Wears Prada back on June 30th and it suddenly struck me like a very expensive coat in the face that, blasphemy of blasphemies, we have never done a Prada Edition for this series. I KNOW!! Insert a gif of one of Miranda's withering glares here. Shameful. So let's see if the Anne-Hatha-lovers have any tricks up their designer sleeves...

PREVIOUSLY Last week between bouts of Meryl we tackled another queen of screen Olivia de Havilland, and while she may not have taken down Ryan Murphy with her Feud-based lawsuit Livvy at least got one over on that other queen Monty Clift, taking 59% of your Heiress vote. Said joel6:

Wait James Marsden is the other man in this movie? (You may recall I told you I hadn't seen it when Kim was writing up its famous kiss last month. Somehow I didn't know that Rachel McAdams had to choose between Marsden and Gosling? Tough life, that girl leads.) Oh and did you hear that weird story about how Netflix changed the ending to The Notebook in the UK? I wouldn't have known the difference but bizarre. How is that even legal?

Gird Your Loins for a "Devil Wears Prada" Musical

Chris here, with exciting Broadway adaptation news. Yes, we've maybe begun to move past eyerolling whenever our favorite movies are cashgrabbed into a stage musical and are occassionally excited about some prospects. The Devil Wears Prada seems like a more natural fit for Broadway (and long rumored). It also just landed some quite credible talent: composer Elton John and scribe Paul Rudnick.

If you're worried about an instant classic like Prada being bastardized, look no further than how Elton John turned Billy Elliot into both a financial and creative success on the stage. Paul Rudnick has given us such gay classics as Jeffrey, Addams Family Values, and In & Out, so don't expect the hilarity to be diminished either. While there is not an arrival date yet, the announcement of their involvement is all we need to confirm that this adaptation is really happening and will be a gay old time.

Get ready for lots of speculation on who will step into Meryl Streep's Priestley shoes, though we imagine it is too early to speculate on casting (or how Tony-ready Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci's former roles will be). It is however fun to fantasize about how Elton will musicalize the pages of Runway magazine. I personally can't wait for numbers like "That's All", "The Cube of Cheese Diet", and "(My Esteemed Colleague) Jacqueline Follet".

Posterized: Emily Blunt

Is Emily Blunt an A List Movie Star or still perpetually "on the verge"? The box office returns for her current thriller Girl on the Train, promoted largely on her name and face alone, suggest the former but bestsellers do come with their own pull.

This perpetual question is aggravating to anyone who has fallen in love with Blunt over the years in any number of movies. Those who have appear to be legion because what's not to love? She can nail drama and she's funny in comedies. She's totally convincing as an action heroine and she's also adept at the movie musical. We've yet to see a genre she can't do.
