Tracking Board best of everything with lots of Lin-Manuel Miranda and blockbuster hits
Variety names worst movies of the year including right-wing fact-free propaganda "documentaries" and movies you forgot came out this year like The Brothers Grimsby and Nina -- unfortunately they also slam Tate Donovan right and left for his direction of Girl on the Train. Leave Tate Donovan alone, Variety. He doesn't direct and he's in Manchester by the Sea this year, not that thriller. Editor? Anyone?
AP's top ten has the usual suspects La La Land and Moonlight, a few documentaries but mixes it up with The Edge of Seventeen

Cate and Pedro

It's been great having Cate Blanchett in our city. From glimpsing her amazing costumes on the Ocean's 8 set, to waxing poetic about Amy Adams at the Gotham Awards, she's giving us lots to cherish while she is in New York City. And there's more to come. Rehearsals start next week on her Broadway debut, The Present, set to start previews on December 17th and open on January 8th. Before that though she had time to toast the master actressexual filmmaker, Pedro Almodovar.

Cate was one of the guests at the opening of the Almodovar retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art. The retrospective is running through December 17th, and coincides with the release of Almodóvar’s 20th feature, Julieta (2016), and includes all of his feature films. So New Yorkers don't miss it.

This picture got us thinking that Cate should work with Pedro. Can you see her in an English language remake of one of his films? Which one?

Cate and Sandy on the Set of "Ocean's 8"

by Chris Feil

We're pretty excited for the Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett-led Ocean's retooling here at The Film Experience - no surprise considering the cast also includes Sarah Paulson, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, and Awkwafina. Can you believe we have to wait almost two years for this thing?!

Well, the film recently began filming and we're of course foaming at the mouth to see our first glimpse of these actresses together! Here are some shots of our headliners in action, with Bullock looking like Miss Congeniality's Gracie Hart back in action but Blanchett giving her audition for a Prince version of I'm Not There. One can hope that costume designer Sarah Edwards (The Last Days of Disco, Michael Clayton) has even more outfits like this for Blanchett to play with.

More looks and thoughts after the jump...
