Beauty vs Beast: Say it With Streep

Jason Adams from MNPP here with our fourth and final LGBT themed "Beauty vs Beast" poll of this year's Gay Pride Month, and what happier -- dare I say gayer -- coincidence could we stumble into than a rainbow bright overlap with the 70th birthday celebration of our queen, all hail, Meryl Streep. Yes it was this past Saturday, but this is the sort of thing that should also get its own month, ya know? For our purposes we turn our eyes to Meryls two explicitly queer roles, that of the wife-turned-lesbian-turned-author Jill in Manhattan and that of the party-tossing Janney-kissing Clarissa in The Hours

PREVIOUSLY Y'all killed Eve, but just barely, with last week's Killing Eve poll, giving it voer to Jodie Comer's turn as the villanous Villanelle with just 52% of the vote. Said Dancin' Dan:

"Look, I LOVE Sandra Oh and I LOVE her performance as Eve... but Jodie Comer's Villanelle just steals the show. I love the little smile she gets whenever she's about to go into assassin mode and kill somebody. She just enjoys what she does, and enjoys the lifestyle it has allowed her to live. She's an icon."

Big Little Lies MVPs: Episode 2.2 "Tell-Tale Hearts"

By Spencer Coile

After a compelling season opener, Big Little Lies is back to remind viewers why its viewership only continues to rise. Renata’s husband, Gordon, is arrested and jeopardizes her wealth and self-worth. Per Nathan’s request, Bonnie’s mother (Crystal Fox) arrives on the scene to shake her daughter out of her funk. Meanwhile, Celeste and Jane disclose to their respective families how Perry connects them - much to the chagrin and denial from Mary Louise. Not to mention, Ed finds out about Madeline’s affair with the theater director and concludes their marriage is over. Oh yeah, and Perry had an older brother who died years ago.

A lot of drama was covered in the second episode, so buckle up for...

Big Little Lies MVPs: Episode 2.1 "What Have They Done?"

by Nathaniel R

The first season of Big Little Lies won 8 Emmys, 4 Golden Globes, and 2 SAG Awards and, most importantly, the hearts of actressexuals everywhere. It would be foolish to expect the possibly unneccessary Season 2 to deliver at quite the same level. But for now, just one episode in, it more than satisfied, if only for the chance to see these exceptionally well-drawn characters again.

The first episode begins with the new school year and charts the after-effects of Perry's (Alexander Skarsgård) death. The death has (mostly) been deemed an accident  but "the Monterey 5" (Kidman, Witherspoon, Woodley, Dern and Kravitz aka Celeste, Madeline, Jane, Renata and Bonnie) are still the talk of the town. To add to the combustible mix of those five strong personalities, now closer friends due to their shared tragedy/lies, Perry's mother Mary Louise (Meryl Streep) is making everyone uncomfortable not just with her questions about the death of her son, but the brusque manner in which she delivers them.  As with season 1, we'll conquer each episode in list format. Herewith...

Yes, Yes, Yes: "Big Little Lies" Season 2

The new trailer for Big Little Lies has broken us. We cannot perform our Yes, No, Maybe So breakdown because we were mouthing 'yes' repeatedly with no sound coming out for all 58 seconds of this trailer, such was the wide-eyed thirst for all of this. That final bit with Meryl Streep? That was an audible YES capped by Reese Witherspoon's perfect micro-stunned reaction.

4 days until Oscars. More trivia fun.

Four is today's magic number so let's share some Oscar trivia.

IS ANYONE UP FOR A POSSIBLE FOURTH COMPETITIVE WIN THIS YEAR?
Why yes, we're so glad you asked. In addition to the previously discussed costume designer Sandy Powell (The Favourite might make it four for that genius), Makeup artist Greg Cannom, who previously won Oscars for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Mrs Doubtfire and Bram Stoker's Dracula, might well win his fourth for giving Christian Bale that realistic looking Cheney bald cap and thick neck in Vice. If Cannom wins he becomes the second most awarded makeup artist of all time (after category king Rick Baker -- who appears to have retired? -- who took the Oscar an incredible 7 times). Now, technically, Cannom is already the second most awarded makeup artist but he's currently holding that honor in a tie with another three time winner Ve Neill (she won for Beetlejuice and Ed Wood, as well as Mrs Doubtfire alongside Cannom). Interestingly enough both Cannom and Ve Neill each won Makeup Guild awards this past weekend for Vice and A Star is Born respectively.

Katharine Hepburn is the only person to ever win 4 acting Oscars...
